Abstract

The aim of this invention is to produce a design for a wind power installation which provides a sufficiently high speed for the electricity generators, without power- consuming and expensive transmission arrangements, to use low wind speeds, and moreover a rational construction method which allows service and repair and allows a low construction cost. To achieve this aim, the following design principles are applied, which characterize the invention: instead of propellers, use is made of elongate rotors of relatively small diameter, which results in a considerably higher speed than for a propeller with the same torque, which has been established by trials using models. In order to increase the effective wind speed, the rotors are mounted in pairs with opposite directions of rotation in vertical frames provided with fixed guide rails which direct and increase the speed of the air flow. The opposite rotation of the rotors is used by driving both the rotor and stator of the generator, as a result of which the speed capacity is doubled. The rotors mounted in pairs in their frames constitute a module which is a complete operational wind power installation. <IMAGE>
