Abstract
A piston (10) for an internal combustion engine incorporates at least one metal reinforcing member (20 or 30) provided with open pores all over its surface. A squeeze casting-method is employed to cause the molten piston material, which is aluminium or an aluminium alloy, to fill the pores of the metal reinforcing member(s) throughout the thickness thereby improving the strength of the piston. The reinforcing member(s) may be a sintered alloy of chromium, nickel, carbon, copper, silicon, manganese and iron in specified proportions. <IMAGE>
