Abstract

The rough board pieces are fed successively to an edging station where they are individually edge-trimmed to remove any residual bark and other defects. They are then fed to a cutting station where they are cut to plank shape. Prior to the workpieces being fed to the edging station, they pass through one for measuring, in which the size and shape of each piece is measured, as is the size and position of any defects and edge deformities. - The measured data for each workpiece, in company with information which identifies the individual pieces, are fed to a computer. Using an earlier formulated programme, and starting from the measured data for each individual workpiece, the computer calculates where the edging and cutting work is to be executed, so that predetermined criteria as to size, quality and value are fulfilled. The computer then controls the edging and cutting processes accordingly.
