Abstract

The invention relates to a device for mechanical reception of plants 80 or the like which prior to reception have their roots trimmed 88 to a predetermined depth D. The plants 80 are received together with an earth layer 90, which has been cut free as a result of the root-trimming, in the form of an essentially continuous mat 92, which mat is guided up onto a suitably forward-facing and downward-angled receiving surface 52 by the latter being guided forward in a direction F parallel with the ground surface 82 towards plants 80 which have not yet been received. The receiving surface 52 is constituted at least partially by a working part 52 of a belt conveyor. Vibration members 72,74 are arranged to vibrate the received mat 92 in order to separate the earth layer incorporated therein. The received plants 80,100 are wholly undamaged and, where appropriate, stand essentially upright when taken finally into charge and sorted. <IMAGE>
