Abstract

A marine propulsion device 10 has an operator actuated pneumatic device 42 to provide pneumatic assistance for movement of the gear change lever (38), the throttle control lever (40 Fig. 3 not shown) or the steering arm (36 Fig. 4 not shown) for steering the propulsion unit. The pneumatic device comprises a piston and cylinder actuator 44,46 and a valve 42 which controls the supply of sub-atmospheric gases, from the crankcase 32 of the engine 26, or above-atmospheric gases, from the combustion chamber 34 of the engine, to the actuator. <IMAGE>
