Abstract

Compensation of the image to be readjusted (2), with respect to another image, called the reference image (1), is effected the background of the image to be readjusted (2) having undergone a translation with respect to the background of the reference image (1). The process consists in: - defining a correlation function, which is a function of the coordinates of the elements of the image to be readjusted (2) and of the elements of the reference image (1) having a high luminance gradient, i.e. corresponding with contours, and as a function of the components * capital Greek delta *x and * capital Greek delta *y of a translation vector of a correlation window (7,8) cut out from the images (1,2); - computing the values T x and T y of the components * capital Greek delta *x and * capital Greek delta *y , such that the correlation function is a maximum, this computation being refined by a second order interpolation; - computing luminance values of the elements of an image called the readjusted image, as a function of the luminance values of the elements of the image to be readjusted c2) and as a function of the values T x and T y .
