Abstract
A scanning mirror displaces the image of the scene across and perpendicular to a mosaic of detectors having a plurality of parallel lines L1 ... L4 of infrared detector elements, which lines are staggered so as to obtain improved resolution. The lines L1 ... L4 are associated respectively with charge transfer devices (CTD)s Q1 ... Q4 for the purpose of analysing the scene in the direction of the lines by transfer of the charges generated in the detector elements so producing a serial signal for tv raster display. The signals emerging from the CTDs are retarded by the time interval r1, r2, r3 between these lines, in order that these various signals should correspond to a single line of the scene, i.e. each set of four adjacent detectors in respective lines are combined to give a single scan. Application is to night-time observation systems. <IMAGE>
