Abstract

The sheet metal 'Lh section lintel (1) is for supporting brickwork over window openings and includes diagonal tie straps (11). The straps may hook over the leg (2, 4) ends to triangulate the 'L' section (1) and may slide along the section (1) for location in brickwork joints. - The 'L' section subtends an obtuse angle, the end of the horizontal leg (4) returns (5) down to form an angle of say 100 deg. with the leg, and the end of the inclined leg returns (3) down vertically. A special bar (8) with a basal hook (13) may be used to fix (9) the section to a structural member at the rear. The hook (13) supports the return (3) of the top leg, and the system effects significant reduction in anchorage (9) tensions. Alternatively, the strap and the rear leg of the lintel section may terminate in upper vertical lengths which are lap-fixed to the substructure. The strap (1) may take the form of an eyelet bolt with hook couplings, and can be prestressed.
