Abstract

A diagnostic agent containing a paramagnetic metal is disclosed, which diagnostic agent comprises a physiologically tolerable, water-insoluble, hydroxyl group-containing macromolecular product in particle form, with the macromolecular product consisting of at least one polymeric or polymerized carbohydrate or polymerized sugar alcohol, or a derivative thereof, which has been crosslinked to a three-dimensional network which is insoluble but swellable in water and which exhibits cavities, with the said cavities in the three-dimensional network being at least partly filled with at least one substance which is insoluble or difficultly soluble in water and which contains a non-radioactive paramagnetic metal.
