Abstract

A process and apparatus for the collection, at high speed, of a layer of mineral fibres from a mixture of a carrier gas, e.g. air, and fibres contained therein as a result of fibration of basic mineral material in a fibration machine (1,2), and whereby the newly formed fibres (5), suspended in the carrier gas (4) are led away from the fibration machine and to a collection device consisting of one or more collection cylinders (8) with perforated outer surfaces, on which the fibres (5) are collected into a mineral fibre layer (10), which can be lifted off (at 13), while the carrier gas (4,11,12) is allowed to pass through the cylinders (8) or the cylinders' outer surfaces and pass through the same perforated outer surfaces to another space. In between the interior of the cylinders (8) and the collecting position for the fibres (5), a negative pressure differential is maintained, mainly by the apparatus on the carrier gas's exit side (23, 24) being connected to a suction fan. This suction fan can be mounted in a suction chamber (23, 24), which essentially fits tightly to the cylinder casing and to the fibre collection part of the cylinders (8) and induces a negative pressure both within the cylinder and in a defined region outside it. The collection cylinders are arranged in series in order to produce two or more mineral fibre layers parallel to one another or a single mineral fibre mat consisting of a collection of several layers.<IMAGE>
