Abstract

Catalytically active articles, esp. for flameless complete combustion of hydrocarbons to form CO2 and H2O, are produced by activating porous plates of ceramic fibre with an oxidn. catalyst comprising mainly Pt gp. metal. Activation may be carried out by immersion of the plates in an equal volume of alcoholic H2PtCl6 of concn. 0.005 to 0.01 mole/l., heating to reduce the Pt to the metallic state, cooling, then reheating for 5-20 mins. at 500 to 600 deg. C.
