Abstract
Process for producing sintered nuclear fuel bodies by pressing a powder comprising UO2 which may contain up to 10% by weight of U3O8 and may also contain up to 10% by weight of Gd2O3 or other burnable neutron absorbers, to form a compact, and by sintering the compact. According to the invention, a powder is used for pressing of which 10-25% by weight have a particle size of less than 1.5 mu m and 75-90% by weight have a particle size of 1.5-100 mu m and whose average particle size is 6-11 mu m. One possibility of preparing the powder is to employ a starting powder (18) of which at least 94% by weight have a particle size of 1.5-100 mu m and whose average particle size is 9-16 mu m and to blast it against a fixed face (11) by means of a gas stream. <IMAGE>
