Abstract
An aqueous quenching agent for aluminium-base alloys comprises from 0.1 to 30% by weight of polyoxyalkylene glycol ether having a molecular weight of from 4000 to 30000 and preferably from 10000 to 12000 or from 20000 to 25000 and from 0.5 to 15% by weight of anti- corrosion additive that is an alkanolamine salt of a C7-13 oxo acid or an alkanolamine cinnamate, the balance being water, with a preferential composition of from 5 to 20% by weight of the polyoxyalkylene glycol ether and from 2 to 10% by weight of the additive. Preferably, the quenching agent comprises from 12 to 15% by weight of Emkarox FC 31/45000 and from 4 to 5% of I.P.9.
