Abstract

The invention relates to a speed control mechanism especially for internal combustion engines, which are provided with carburettors, comprising a control element connected to the engine in question - a manually operatable mechanism arranged at a predetermined distance from the control element and a connecting arrangement allowing an adjustment of the manual operating mechanism to be proportionally transmitted to the operating element. According to the invention the control element is connected to a contact breaker switch (8), which is electrically arranged inside the electric circuit for operation of the engine. This contact breaker switch (8) also has a spring loaded, displaceable contact element (11), which by means of a tension element (5) held under tensile stress is held in a position in which the electric circuit is closed. As soon as a certain play occurs on the relevant tension element (5), however, the electric circuit is opened under the influence of the said spring. In this way an engine can be automatically shut down if the control element jams in a certain throttle position, for example due to freezing. <IMAGE>
