Abstract

The invention relates to a process for the preparation of 3,3,7-trimethyl-2,9-dioxatricyclo[3.3.1.0<4,7>]nonane of the formula <IMAGE> which can be used as an insect pheromone, by the reduction of 1,5,5-trimethyl-7-endo-tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy-4-oxabicyclo[4.2.0] octan-3-one by means of diisobutylaluminium hydride and treatment of the reaction product after desilylation thereof.
