Abstract
A metal article e.g. a gas turbine compressor casing is provided such that total expansion of the article by the process known as creep will be reduced during thermal exposure. A method, referred to as pre-creep, for producing such an article is disclosed whereby the first stage creep of the article is expended during the manufacturing cycle by application of thermomechanical processing steps. The article will operate in service during second stage creep where expansion by creep is substantially in the lowest rate range. The article in the condition produced by the method described will thereby experience a reduction in total creep during thermal exposure. <IMAGE>
