Abstract
The tubular serpentine coil (1) receives superheated vapour at its inlet (A) and discharges the liq. at its outlet (B). Its surface is cooled by water from overhead sprays (3) which is collected in a tray (5) and recycled by a pump (6). Between the sprays (3), a precooler is provided with exterior fins (8) which may be in the form of plates dished in the same direction, or V-shaped, or Z-shaped, so as to redirect the air flow in the direction of the fan (4). - Moisture from the air condenses in the form of drops on the fins (8). Some drops are vapourised by heat from the tube (1) for additional heat exchange augmenting the simultaneous convection. For compactness the fins may be positioned directly above the sprays.(2/9)
