Abstract

A method in the transportation of viscous or non-flowing, liquid-containing pulp, such as papermaking pulp, peat sludge and the like, through a conduit while using a pump arrangement connected to the inlet end of the conduit. In accordance with the method, liquid forced from the pulp as a result of the compression forces to which the pulp is subjected when generating the requisite pump pressure is led away, and at least part of this liquid is supplied to the outlet of the pump, between the surface of the pulp exiting in plug form and the inner surface of the conduit. The pump arrangement suitably has the form of a screw pump having a part which converges conically in the pulpfeed direction, this part of the screw pump being surrounded by a casing having the form of a screen through which water pressed from the pulp is led away. The application also relates to apparatus for carrying out the method.
