Abstract

The method determines the coordinate position of a noise report, and uses sound measurement, where sound signals produced in similar form and close sequence are probed by a number of microphones grouped in a specific position. The arrival time of the signals is recorded and fed to a calculator-computer programmed with an algorithm involving the combination of the arrival times for position determination, and sorting for arrival at true position data. For each probed sound signal, the direction towards its source is determined from a selected starting point connected to a microphone base. This is used to determine the coordinates of the noise report, and is stored for sorting. As indicator group, three microphones forming the corners of an equal-sided triangle are used, or, alternatively, four microphones can be employed in Y-formation.
