Abstract

A method of making pipe bends in one piece directly from a sheet blank comprises deep-drawing the sheet blank to a bent pipe along a curved axis corresponding to the curvature of the pipe bend and trimming the ends of the bent pipe. Preferably, the deep-drawing of the sheet blank is carried out as reversed drawing operation simultaneously in opposite directions. The apparatus for carrying out said method includes a frame, a curved die (2) fixedly mounted in the frame and a curved, hollow punch (3) which is pivotally mounted in the frame. The centre axis of said punch is located on the same circular arc as the centre axis of the die. The apparatus is provided with means for pivoting the punch axially over the die so that a sheet blank positioned between the punch and the die will be deep-drawn in one stroke to form an integral curved pipe bend on the die. <IMAGE>
