Abstract
In cleaning the exhaust gas of a combustion engine, the gases pass through a catalyst bed whose temp. is sensed and controlled. The fall of the catalyst bed temp. to a predetermined valve starts mixing of liquefied petroleum gas with the exhaust gas upstream of the catalyst bed. Gases from the engine (10) pass along the pipe (11) to the cleaning unit (12). This has a perforated container (13) which contains a catalyst bed (14) of catalyst granules. After passing through the bed, the gases go through the silencer to the atmos. The bed has an electrical heating coil (15) with connecting cable (16). Upstream of the exhaust cleaning unit (12) there is a nozzle (17) connected to a pipe (18), solenoid valve (19) and LPG tank (20). The temp. sensor (21) senses the bed temp. and provides an input for the control unit (22). This opens and closes the valve (19). (Provisional Basic previously advised in Week 83/39).
