Abstract
In a transmission comprising first and second serially connected planetary gear sets P1, P2, each set comprises a planetary pinion carrier 16, 62 fast with the output member of that set, a plurality of planetary pinions 21, 22, 23, 24 and 74, 81 mounted in the carrier, at least two pinions in each carrier being of different gearing diameters, an input and centrally disposed gear (ring gear 14 of the first set and sun 60 or 79 of the second set) meshing with one of the planetary pinions and at least two other centrally disposed gears (suns 41, 42, 43, ring gear 44, and ring gears 75, 82) also meshing with pinions, each of these centrally disposed gears having brake means 51, 52, 53, 54, 76, 83, a separate input centrally disposed gear 60, 79 for each of the pinions of the second gear set mounted on the input shaft X, Y of the second gear set, and the two pinions 74, 81 of the second gear set being journalled on the carrier 62 independently of each other. <IMAGE>
