Abstract

The invention concerns an arrangement easily adaptable and sized to suit local conditions and requirements. There is a base unit and dwelling modules are secured to this, each consisting of a decked pontoon (15) of a regular six sided plan and of sufficient displacement to hold the deck basically at the same level as the base unit. Each pontoon has a building (16) with living space on two floors (23, 24); the lower occupies less area than the pontoon's deck so that there is a gangway (25) around the building. The roof (32) can be shaped in various ways either as a six sided pyramid or as trapezium shaped area joined to a flat central roof section, ideally fitted with a clerestory (33).For use offshore, for example, the dwelling modules can be secured outside the base unit, so that decked service pontoons can be secured between each pair of dwelling modules. Between a service pontoon and adjoining dwelling modules, and the base unit, there is a an area of water, which by means of, for example, a net, can be turned into a swimming pool for children. Outward facing sides of the service pontoon can be designed as securing places for boats. The dwelling modules and service pontoons are connected together by leads for electricity, water, drains etc. Certain service pontoons can be septic tanks, or containers for fresh water, fuel etc.<IMAGE>
