Abstract

A spray unit for the dampening system of a printing press comprises a supply manifold 10 which contains passages 11, 12 supplying air and dampening liquid and a plurality of individual spray heads 15 each located in a passage 13 normal to the supply passages and each including elongated means 16 defining a bore 20 leading to a nozzle opening 21 and including an elongated capillary rod 30 mounted within the elongated means for movement between open and closed positions, and cooperating means 51, 56 for latching the rod in its forward, closed position. In the open position liquid from passage 12 flows into groove 34 on the rod 30 and along helical metering groove 35 to nozzle 25; in the closed position, Figure 2 (not shown), access to the groove 34 is prevented. A needle 31 on the rod serves to unblock the nozzle. <IMAGE>
