Abstract
Terminally blocked methyl polysiloxane liquids such as trimethylsiloxane-end-blocked polydimethyl siloxanes can be made more resistant to the thermally induced siloxane rearrangement by incorporating in them titanium, zirconium or hafnium compounds. These compounds can be incorporated by admixing the organosiloxy derivative of titanium, zirconium or hafnium to the said liquid, or by admixing certain organic compounds of titanium, zirconium or hafnium to the liquid, and heating the mixture in order to decompose the organic compound introduced. The thermal stability of the liquid can be further improved by admixing a small amount of an organosilicon hydride to the titanium-, zirconium- or hafnium-containing liquid. Such thermally stabilized liquids are particularly suitable for use as heat transfer agents in a non- oxidative water-free environment.
