A soft dry animal feed having a moisture content of 5-15% and a water activity AW within the range 0.60-0.75, with the animal feed comprising a basal mixture up to the amount of between 50 and 90%, which basal mixture comprises a dispersed and homogeneous mixture of at least one starch-containing constituent, fat, a polyhydric alcohol and water, and also a process for producing it.
