Abstract

A cushioning layer of foamed urethane is formed on fabric backing of carpet on an endless belt. The advancing belt is coated during the idle run with a film of elastomer. On the active run, the urethane mixture is spread on at controlled temp. and partially reacted by heat before it is engaged by the carpet. The backing is preheated to 100-300 degrees F. After engagement, heat and pressure are applied to complete foaming and cure. More even thickness is obtd.
