Abstract

Preparations of sub-units of the inner capsid of the rotavirus are nearly free of complete virus particles and fragments thereof. The preparations are produced by suspending a sample of faecal material which is derived from a mammal infected with a rotavirus and incubating the suspension at 30 to 45 DEG C for at least 20 minutes. The sub-units are removed from the suspension by means of centrifugation and/or filtration and concentrated. The preparations are used for the production of a rotavirus antiserum.
