Abstract
An immunoassay for the polypeptide thymic hormone thymopoietin is described. Determination of thymopoietin levels in biological fluids provides a useful diagnostic test for myasthenic gravis (elevated levels), immune deficiency disease (reduced levels), immunologically mediated disease such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus and allergy (reduced levels), cancer (reduced levels), malnutrition (reduced levels) and infections (reduced levels). The present assay is also useful as a monitor of the effectiveness of therapy in each of the aforementioned types of disease states.
