Abstract
For the repair of a metallic pipeline with a damaged wall section, a sleeve (10) extending beyond the damaged wall section on both sides, is introduced into the pipeline (12) and is subjected in both its end regions to a radially outwardly acting internal pressure in order first of all to expand the sleeve (10) and then to expand the sleeve (10) together with the pipeline (12) and effect a form fit between sleeve (10) and pipeline (12). Arranged on a hollow pin (22) which can be pushed into the sleeve (10) are two stops (24, 26), which are provided with sealing elements (38) and bound a hollow space (36) for the section of the sleeve (10) which is to expand. The hollow space (36) is in connection with the bore (40) of the hollow pin (22). A pressurised hydraulic fluid is fed from the outside to the bore (40) of the hollow pin (22) in order to expand the sleeve (10) and the pipeline (12) at the point of the hollow space (36). As a result, the damaged wall section of the pipeline can be repaired virtually free from any leaks by simple means and by remote action. <IMAGE>
