Abstract

The method for limiting the charging process, which charging process is carried out with a decreasing current using a stabilised charging characteristic, that is to say a charging characteristic which is independent of fluctuations in the power supply voltage, is intended to ensure complete charging as far as the battery-dependent end of charging, irrespective of the charge state and age of the battery. The method is intended to be uninfluenced by temperature changes caused by charging. At the start of the charging process, the charging current intensity is measured at predetermined time intervals and the respective differences between the two successive measurement results are formed. When a predetermined minimum difference between two measurement results is reached or undershot, a pulse is stored. The charging process is ended when a pulse is stored on at least two directly successive occasions. The method results in absolutely correct charging of both new and old batteries. The life of the batteries is significantly extended. <IMAGE>
