Abstract

A process for preparing an alpha-amino-acid amide from the corresponding nitrile including reacting the alpha-amino-acid nitrile with a ketone in an aqueous reaction medium at a pH between about 11 and 14, and recovering the alpha-amino-acid amide from the reaction medium.
