Abstract

Rapidly setting compsn. is obtd. by mixing an aq. soln. of an alkali metal (or ammonium) silicate with at least one polyvalent metal cpd. having a water solubility at 20 degrees C of >=0.01g/1., which is not a silicate, and/or a hydraulic cement, in sufficient amt. to react with all the silicate ions, in the presence of a polyisocyanate opt. mixed with a polyor monofunctional organic cpd. which is reactive with isocyanates. The compsn. may, before setting, be spread onto a variety of surfaces, floors, ceilings, walls, oblique and incurved surfaces witha trowel, brush, rollr or spray gun, or cast moulded or extruded into any shape, such as plates blocks, half cylinders, etc. and find many uses in civil engineering.
