Abstract

The laminate (1) consists of a support layer (2) of expanded polystyrene and is laminated on both sides with compact layers (3, 4) of polystyrene. The end face (5) on which the support layer (2) is exposed is blown on by a hot-air nozzle (6), the blowing channel (7) of which corresponds at least to the thickness of the support layer. During heating by means of the hot-air jet, the end face (5) melts, the support layer (2) contracting and the two outer layers (3, 4) fusing together. The laminate (1) can then be welded simply in an abutting or T-shaped manner to a second laminate. The process can be used, for example, in the production of packages for liquid foodstuffs. <IMAGE>
