1488427 Safety belt retractors ACIERS ET OUTILLAGE PEUGEOT 24 Nov 1975 [2 Dec 1974 31 July 1975] 48244/75 Heading A3V A safety belt retractor comprises a disc 8 fixed for rotation with a mandrel 2 rotatable in support 1, about which mandrel a belt C is wound under the action of spring 6, a flywheel 9 coaxial with disc 8 and rotatable with respect to the mandrel, a blocking means e.g. roller 20 being engageable with cavities 23 in ring 21 fixed to support 1, flywheel 9 having the same number of outer teeth 25 as the ring has cavities 23, and an acceleration detector having a pawl (26) whose point coincides with the median radial plane of a cavity 23 and which cooperates with teeth 25. Fast belt unwinding causes rotation of disc 8 relative to flywheel 9 and so ribs 15 on flywheel 9 push rollers 20 from notches 13 in plate 8 up ramps 13<SP>b</SP> into engagement with cavities 23 thus locking mandrel 2. Vehicle acceleration moves pendudium 30 to tip cup 32 and push pawl 26 into engagement with teeth 25 on flywheel 9, subsequent relative movement of disc 8 and flywheel 9 urges rollers 20 outwardly to engage cavities 23. Spring 17 biases flywheel 9 to apply rollers 20 against curved ends 13a of notches 13. In Figures 4-7 (not shown) rollers (53) have conical projections (64) normally engaging annular groove (62) in a guide member (60) and being guided by outwardly extending grooves (63) into cavity engagement. Spring (54) connected to disc (47) is inserted into one of three holes (56<SP>a</SP>, 56<SP>b</SP>, 56<SP>c</SP>) in flywheel (48) to determine the retractor's belt sensitivity.
