Abstract

1523726 Nitrogen oxides removal with ammonia SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 22 Sept 1975 [24 Sept 1974] 41505/74 Heading C1A Nitrogen oxides are removed from oxygen containing flue gases by reaction with introduced NH 3 in the presence of a catalyst comprising one or more metal sulphates and up to 700 p.p.m. of SO2 which is introduced into the flue gas before contact of the gas mixture with the catalyst. An exemplified catalyst is copper sulphate on an alumina carrier; other sulphates are specified. The ammonia may be introduced by the injection into the flue gas of urea, hydrazine, ethylene diamine, hexamethylene tetramine or an aqueous solution of ammonia or ammonium carbonate. The ammonia and SO2 may be produced simultaneously by introducing ammonium sulphite.
