1499550 Monitoring wear of turbine blades BROWN BOVERI-SULZER TURBOMASCHINEN AG 22 May 1975 [28 June 1974] 22105/75 Headings G1N and G1S Apparatus for monitoring the wear of gas turbine blades comprises a rod of similar material subjected to the same combustion gases, whose dimensions are continually checked. In one embodiment the electrical resistance of the test rod is measured. In another, the test rod is a hollow tube supplied with a pressure difference between the inside and outside. When erosion causes a leak to appear the pressure difference is reduced and an alarm is energized. A number of test rods of different cross-sectional area may be used to increase the sensitivity.
