Abstract

1478621 (Meth)acrylonitrile STANDARD OIL CO 4 June 1974 [4 June 1973 19 July 1973 4 Jan 1974] 24600/74 Heading C2C [Also in Division B1] Acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile are produced by the reaction of propylene or isobutylene with molecular oxygen and ammonia at 200-600‹ C. in the presence of a catalyst of the empirical formula wherein: X is Ge, Sn, Cu, Ag, Cr, Ru, W, Be, B, Ga, In, Mn, Sb, Th, Zr, Y or mixtures thereof; A is alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, Sc, Y, rare earth metal, Nb, Ta, P, As or mixtures thereof and is different from " X " or " C "; C is Ni, Co, Mg, Zn, Cd, Ca or mixtures thereof; a is 0.01 to 4; 6 is 0 to 4; c and d are 0À01 to 12; e is 0.01 to 6; and x is a number to satisfy valency requirements. The examples describe the ammoxidation of propylene using a feed of propylene / ammonia / oxygen / nitrogen / steam molar ratio 1.8/2.2/3.6/2.4/6, a contact time of 3 seconds, a WWH of 0-10 and a temperature of 420‹ C., and the ammoxidation of isobutylene with a feed of isobutylene/ammonia/air/steam of 1/1.2 or 1.5/11/4 at a temperature of 400‹ C.
