1490372 Anaerobically curable compositions THREEBOND CO Ltd 14 Aug 1974 [21 Aug 1973] 35794/74 Heading C3P Anaerobically curable sealing compositions comprise (A) a monomer in which R 1 is H, Cl, CH 3 or C 2 H 5 ; p and y are 0 or 1, m=1-8, n=1-20; R 2 is H or CH 2 = C(R 1 )CO-; R 3 is H, CH 3 , C 2 H 5 , -CH 2 OH or -CH 2 OCOC(R 1 )=CH 2 ; R 4 is H, OH or -CH 2 OCOC(R 1 )=CH 2 ; provided that when y is 0, R 1 is H or CH 3 , R 2 is H, m=2-4 and n=1-10; (B) 0À01-10% of an organic peroxide; (C) 0À01-10% of thioglycollic acid, α- or #-mercaptopropionic acid and/or a methyl ester thereof and/or ethyl thioglycollate; and (D) 0À05-5% of an organic amine. In the examples the materials specified are (A) 2- hydroxyethylmethacrylate, di(ethylene glycol)- methacrylate, tri-, tetra- and poly-(ethylene glycol)dimethacrylate, glycerintrimethacrylate, 1,2 - propylene glycol dimethacrylate, trimethylolpropane - methacrylate and - trimethacrylate and hexapropylmethacrylate: (B) benzoyl, acetyl, methylethyl ketone and dicumyl peroxides, t-butylperoxybenzoate and t-butyl, p-menthane, methylethyl ketone and cumene hydroperoxides: (D) dimethylamine, diethylamine, triethylamine, 2 - ethylhexylamine, 1,2,3,4 - tetrahydroquinoline, pyrrolidine, butyrolactam and methylbenzylmethylamine. The composition may be put up in the form of a multicomponent pack, the first component containing (A), the second component containing (C), the remaining materials (B) and (D) being present in either the first or second component or being themselves packaged separately or together. Alternatively an inhbitor such as hydroquinone, benzophenone or p-methoxyphenol may be present in the four component mixture.
