A chassis comprising a flat underbody (1) covering at least part of the chassis, and at least a part of an electric vehicle power management system, comprising at least one heat-generating electric component (3). The heat-generating electric component (3) is arranged in thermal connection with and electric isolation from the flat underbody (1).
Description
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates to a chassis comprising a flat underbody covering at least part of the chassis, and at least a part of an electric vehicle power management system, comprising at
least one heat-generating electric component.
BACKGROUND
Vehicle chassis may comprise a flat underbody provided mainly for the purpose of improving the aerodynamic drag of the vehicle and for protecting vehicle components from dirt and and particles from below. The underbody therefore covers a substantial part of
the chassis and has a relatively large surface area.
Modern vehicles, especially those using electric motors for their propulsion, carries an electric vehicle power management system which has a substantial voltage, for example 400-1000 volt. The cooling needs of such vehicles are normally heavily reduced compared to those of vehcicles using a conventional internal combustion engine. Yet there are components, such as bus bars used during charging of the batteries of such vehicles, that occasionally will generate high amounts of heat and will therefore
require cooling.
Traditionally, vehicles are provided with a front-mounted radiator
which provides for the cooling of vehicle and its components.
However, front-mounted radiators has a negative impact on the
aerodynamic drag of the vehicle.
lt is an object of the present invention to present a chassis which has a cooling arrangement that reduces the need of a front- mounted radiator, thereby
contributing to an improved
aerodynamic drag of the vehicle.
SUMMARY
The object of the invention is achieved by means of a chassis comprising
- a flat underbody covering at least part of the chassis, and
- at least a part of an electric vehicle power management system, comprising at least one heat-generating electric component,
said chassis being characterized in that the heat-generating electric component is arranged in thermal connection with and
electric isolation from the flat underbody.
The heat-generating component generates heat when conducting
an electric current.
According to one embodiment, the part of the electric vehicle power management system that is comprised by the chassis may comprise any of an electric motor for the propulsion of the vehicle, a system for storing electric energy, and connection means for connecting the system for storing electric energy to an electric
DOWGF SOUFCG.
The underbody, which has a large surface subjected to wind during propulsion of the chassis, will thus act as a radiator through which the heat of the heat-generating electric component is transferred to the surrounding atmosphere. The underbody may comprise a sheet-shaped body. The invention does not exclude that the chassis comprises a front-mounted radiator, but will reduce the need thereof. lf a front-mounted radiator is still used, it may be made smaller and have a less negative impact on the aerodynamic drag.
According to one embodiment, the heat-generating electric component is in physical contact with the flat underbody. The thermal connection thus comprises a conduction transfer of heat
through solid material.
According to one embodiment, the flat underbody comprises an electrically conducting material and the heat-generating electric component is thermally connected to the flat underbody via an electric isolator.

The cooling fluid circuit may be part of a heating and cooling
system of the vehicle, configured to regulate the temperature of individual components and parts of the vehicle such as electrical components and spaces such as a cabin. The heat-generating electric component may be in thermal connection with the flat underbody via such a cooling circuit. The thermal connection between the heat-generating electric component and the underbody thereby also comprises convective heat transfer via the liquid. The heat-generating electric component may both be in physical contact with the flat underbody and be cooled via said
heating and cooling system.
According to one embodiment, the flat underbody comprises a plurality of internal channels which are connected to a cooling fluid
circuit, preferably a cooling liquid circuit.
According to one embodiment, the at least one internal channel mainly extends in a longitudinal direction the chassis. lt may
however, as an alternative, extend mainly in other directions.
According to one embodiment, the metallic material of the flat
underbody comprises an aluminium alloy. Alternative embodiments include underbodies made of other metal alloys or polymers or compound materials comprising different metal alloys,
different polymers or combinations of polymers and metal alloys
According to one embodiment, a metallic material of the bus bar comprises a copper alloy. Alternative conducting materials, such
as aluminium alloys, are also conceivable.
According to one embodiment, said part of an electric vehicle
power management system has a voltage of 400-1000 volt.
The object of the invention is also achieved by means of a vehicle, characterized in that it comprises
- a chassis as defined hereinabove, and
-an electric motor for the propulsion of the vehicle, and
- a system for storing electric energy used by the electric motor for
said propulsion, and that the ^===n=~=~~f n: heat-
generating electric component fr:r^f'f;'::“í::::::;:: Fixat Ittf* is configured to conduct electric energy to said system in connection to a
charging operation.
According to one embodiment, the vehicle comprises a heat pipe and the heat pipe is configured to conduct heat from a heat generator provided in the vehicle towards an upper side of the flat underbody. Said heat generator may comprise the heat-generating
electric component.
