Abstract
The present invention relates to a method for promoting use of autonomous passenger vehicles. The method comprises the step of detecting, by means of detection means (110) on board an autonomous passenger vehicle, one or more deviations inside said autonomous passenger vehicle which may generate problems. The method further comprises the step of taking action based on said thus detected one or more deviations so as to decrease or eliminate such thus generated problems.The present invention also relates to a system for promoting use of autonomous passenger vehicles. The present invention also relates to a computer program and a computer readable medium.
Description
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR PROMOTING USE OF AUTONOMOUS PASSENGER VEHICLES TECHNICAL FIELD The invention relates to a method for promoting use of autonomous passenger vehicles according to the preamble of claim 1. The invention also relates to a system for promoting use of autonomous passenger vehicles. The invention in addition relates to a computer program and a computer readable medium.
BACKGROUND ART Currently, the monitoring of the internal situation of a passenger vehicle such as a bus is delegated to the driver. He checks that the conditions are satisfactory and ensures the well-being of the passengers.
Autonomous passenger vehicles such as autonomous buses will not have drivers. This means that all the auxiliary functions that they usually perform will not be carried out by a driver which may result in potential safety issues and/or maintenance issues for the vehicle.
There is a need facilitating promoting use of autonomous passenger vehicles.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION An object of the present invention is to provide a method for promoting use of autonomous passenger vehicles which improves passenger safety and facilitates vehicle maintenance.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a system for promoting use of autonomous passenger vehicles which improves passenger safety and facilitates vehicle maintenance.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION These and other objects, apparent from the following description, are achieved by a method, a system, a vehicle, a computer program and a computer readable medium, as set out in the appended independent claims. Preferred embodiments of the method and the system are defined in appended dependent claims.
Specifically an object of the invention is achieved by a method for promoting use of autonomous passenger vehicles, characterized by the steps of: detecting, by means of detection means on board said autonomous passenger vehicle, one or more deviations inside said autonomous passenger vehicle which may generate problems; and, taking action based on said thus detected one or more deviations so as to decrease or eliminate such thus generated problems wherein the step of taking action based on said thus detected one or more deviations so as to decrease or eliminate such thus generated problems comprises informing an autonomous passenger vehicle fleet centre for the purpose of control of a vehicle fleet.
By thus detecting deviations on board an autonomous passenger vehicle and taking action based on the detected deviation so as to decrease or eliminate such thus generated problems passenger safety may be improved and better control of vehicle maintenance. Hereby deviations may be easily detected and actions may be taken to a greater extent prevent such deviations happening again. Hereby possible injuries on passengers on board said autonomous passenger vehicle may be easily and efficiently detected and proper action taken. Hereby possible damages on the autonomous passenger vehicle may be easily and efficiently detected and proper action taken.
According to an embodiment detection means on board said autonomous passenger vehicle comprises one or more chemical detectors for detecting chemical substances inside said autonomous vehicle and/or one or more sound detectors for detecting problem related sounds inside said vehicle and/or one or more motion detectors for detecting problem related movements inside said vehicle.
The step of taking actions is arranged to be performed by means of means for taking action based on said thus detected one or more deviations so as to decrease or eliminate such thus generated problems.
According to an embodiment of the method the step of the step of detecting one or more deviations inside said autonomous passenger vehicle is performed during operation of said vehicle.
According to an embodiment of the method said one or more deviations comprises one or more of: appearance of one or more undesired chemical substances inside said vehicle; problem related sounds inside said vehicle; problem related movements inside said vehicle. By detecting such deviations a good control of deviations inside said autonomous passenger vehicle which may generate problems is obtained.
Undesired chemical substances inside said vehicle may comprise vomit, urine, blood or the like. Problem related sounds inside said vehicle may comprise screams, shouts such as shouts for help or the like. Problem related movements inside said vehicle may comprise fights between persons, persons falling, persons acting strangely or the like.
According to an embodiment of the method the step of taking action based on said thus detected one or more deviations so as to decrease or eliminate such thus generated problems comprises one or more of: communicating said detected one or more deviations externally to one or more a predetermined receivers, said step of communicating comprising providing an alarm to police, alarm to fire brigade; informing an autonomous passenger vehicle fleet centre; taking said vehicle out of use.
By thus communicating said detected one or more deviations externally proper help such as police or fire brigade may be alerted quickly and efficiently for increased safety.
By thus informing an autonomous passenger vehicle fleet centre better control of vehicle fleet for said vehicle fleet centre is obtained so that actions such as suggested route improvements, replacement of autonomous passenger vehicle, increased maintenance, may be taken.
By thus taking said vehicle out of use, such as putting the vehicle to a safe halt, safety may be improved. For example it may be detected that the autonomous passenger vehicle is no longer safe to drive.
The step of communicating said detected one or more deviations externally is arranged to be performed by means of communication means arranged to communicate said detected one or more deviations externally to one or more a predetermined receivers.
The step of informing an autonomous passenger vehicle fleet centre is arranged to be performed by information means arranged to provide information to an autonomous passenger vehicle fleet centre.
The step of taking said vehicle out of use may comprise putting the vehicle to a halt safely. The step of taking said vehicle out of use is arranged to be performed by means for taking said vehicle out of use, which may comprise any suitable control means or the like.
According to an embodiment the method further comprises the step of storing, by storage means, one or more of said thus detected deviations, and preferably also the actions taken based on said thus detected deviations.
By thus storing one or more of said thus detected deviations, and preferably also the actions taken based on said thus detected deviations relevant information of performance, i.e. deviations, of such autonomous passenger vehicles is obtained. Such information may advantageously be analysed in order to further improve performance so as to decrease and if possible eliminate problems generated by such deviations of such autonomous passenger vehicles.
Said storage means may comprise any suitable storage means such as a server unit, computer, a so called cloud or the like. Said storage means may be external storage means, which according to an embodiment may be comprised in a central unit of an autonomous fleet centre, in a so called cloud, in any kind of server unit, computer or the like. Said storage means may be internal storage means arranged on board such autonomous passenger vehicles and may comprise an on board computer, an on board electronic control unit or the like.
According to an embodiment the method further comprises the step of diagnosing, by diagnosing means, said stored detected deviations, and preferably also the actions taken based on said thus detected deviations.
By thus diagnosing said stored detected deviations, and preferably also the stored actions taken based on said thus detected deviations relevant information of performance, i.e. deviations, of such autonomous passenger vehicles is obtained. Such diagnosis may be used to further improve performance so as to decrease and if possible eliminate problems generated by such deviations of such autonomous passenger vehicles.
Specifically an object of the invention is achieved by a system for promoting use of autonomous passenger vehicles, characterized by: detection means arranged on board said autonomous passenger vehicle to detect one or more deviations inside said autonomous passenger vehicle which may generate problems; and, means for taking action based on said thus detected one or more deviations so as to decrease or eliminate such thus generated problems wherein the means for taking action based on said thus detected one or more deviations so as to decrease or eliminate such thus generated problems comprises information means arranged to provide information to an autonomous passenger vehicle fleet centre.
According to an embodiment of the system the detection means for detecting one or more deviations inside said autonomous passenger vehicle is arranged to perform detection during operation of said vehicle.
According to an embodiment of the system said one or more deviations comprises one or more of: appearance of one or more undesired chemical substances inside said vehicle; problem related sounds inside said vehicle; problem related movements inside said vehicle.
According to an embodiment of the system the means for taking action based on said thus detected one or more deviations so as to decrease or eliminate such thus generated problems comprises one or more of: communication means arranged to communicate said detected one or more deviations externally to one or more a predetermined receivers, said communication means comprising alarm means arranged to provide an alarm to police and/or fire brigade; information means arranged to provide information to an autonomous passenger vehicle fleet centre; means for taking said vehicle out of use.

The system for promoting use of autonomous passenger vehicles is adapted to perform the methods as set out herein.
The system according to the invention has the advantages according to the corresponding method.
Specifically an object of the invention is achieved by a vehicle comprising a system as set out herein.
Specifically an object of the invention is achieved by a computer program for promoting use of autonomous passenger vehicles, said computer program comprising program code which, when run on a control arrangement such as an electronic control unit or another computer connected to the electronic control unit, causes the control arrangement unit to perform methods as set out herein.
Specifically an object of the invention is achieved by a computer readable medium comprising instructions which, when executed by a computer, cause the computer to carry out the method as set out herein.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION Hereinafter the term “link” refers to a communication link which may be a physical connector, such as an optoelectronic communication wire, or a nonphysical connector such as a wireless connection, for example a radio or microwave link.
Fig. 1 schematically illustrates a side view of an autonomous passenger vehicle V according to the present invention. The exemplified vehicle V is an autonomous bus. The vehicle according to the present invention could be any suitable autonomous passenger vehicle. The autonomous passenger vehicle V comprises a system I for promoting use of autonomous passenger vehicles. The system I or at least parts of the system is arranged on board the vehicle V.
Fig. 2 schematically illustrates a block diagram of a system I for promoting use of autonomous passenger vehicles according to an embodiment of the present invention.
The system I comprises a control arrangement 100. Said control arrangement 100 may comprise any suitable control arrangement for promoting use of autonomous passenger vehicles. Said control arrangement 100 may comprise one or more electronic control units, processing units, computers, server units or the like for promoting use of autonomous passenger vehicles. Said control arrangement 100 may comprise control arrangement such as electronic control units arranged in said autonomous passenger vehicles. For example, each autonomous passenger vehicle of a fleet of autonomous passenger vehicles may comprise some kind of control arrangement. Said control arrangement 100 may comprise a central control arrangement.
The system I comprises detection means 110 arranged on board said autonomous passenger vehicle to detect one or more deviations inside said autonomous passenger vehicle which may generate problems.

The control arrangement 100 is via the link 40c arranged to receive signals from said diagnosing means 140 representing data for diagnosed detected deviations and data for diagnosed actions taken based on said thus detected deviations.
Fig. 3 schematically illustrates a block diagram of a method for promoting use of autonomous passenger vehicles according to an embodiment of the present invention.
According to the embodiment the method for promoting use of autonomous passenger vehicles comprises a step S1. In this step one or more deviations inside said autonomous passenger vehicle which may generate problems are detected by means of detection means on board said autonomous passenger vehicle.
According to the embodiment the method for promoting use of autonomous passenger vehicles comprises a step S2. In this step action is taken based on said thus detected one or more deviations so as to decrease or eliminate such thus generated problems.
According to an embodiment detection means on board said autonomous passenger vehicle comprises one or more chemical detectors for detecting chemical substances inside said autonomous vehicle and/or one or more sound detectors for detecting problem related sounds inside said vehicle and/or one or more motion detectors for detecting problem related movements inside said vehicle.
The step of taking actions is arranged to be performed by means of means for taking action based on said thus detected one or more deviations so as to decrease or eliminate such thus generated problems.
According to an embodiment of the method the step of the step of detecting one or more deviations inside said autonomous passenger vehicle is performed during operation of said vehicle.
According to an embodiment of the method said one or more deviations comprises one or more of: appearance of one or more undesired chemical substances inside said vehicle; problem related sounds inside said vehicle; problem related movements inside said vehicle.
Undesired chemical substances inside said vehicle may comprise vomit, urine, blood or the like. Problem related sounds inside said vehicle may comprise screams, shouts such as shouts for help or the like. Problem related movements inside said vehicle may comprise fights between persons, persons falling, persons acting strangely or the like.
According to an embodiment of the method the step of taking action based on said thus detected one or more deviations so as to decrease or eliminate such thus generated problems comprises one or more of: communicating said detected one or more deviations externally to one or more a predetermined receivers, said step of communicating comprising providing an alarm to police, alarm to fire brigade; informing an autonomous passenger vehicle fleet centre; taking said vehicle out of use.
The step of communicating said detected one or more deviations externally is arranged to be performed by means of communication means arranged to communicate said detected one or more deviations externally to one or more a predetermined receivers.
The step of informing an autonomous passenger vehicle fleet centre is arranged to be performed by information means arranged to provide information to an autonomous passenger vehicle fleet centre.
The step of taking said vehicle out of use may comprise putting the vehicle to a halt safely. The step of taking said vehicle out of use is arranged to be performed by means for taking said vehicle out of use, which may comprise any suitable control means or the like.
According to an embodiment the method further comprises the step of storing, by storage means, one or more of said thus detected deviations, and preferably also the actions taken based on said thus detected deviations.
Said storage means may comprise any suitable storage means such as a server unit, computer, a so called cloud or the like. Said storage means may be external storage means, which according to an embodiment may be comprised in a central unit of an autonomous fleet centre, in a so called cloud, in any kind of server unit, computer or the like. Said storage means may be internal storage means arranged on board such autonomous passenger vehicles and may comprise an on board computer, an on board electronic control unit or the like.
According to an embodiment the method further comprises the step of diagnosing, by diagnosing means, said stored detected deviations, and preferably also the actions taken based on said thus detected deviations.
With reference to figure 4, a diagram of an apparatus 500 is shown. The control arrangement 100 described with reference to fig. 2 may according to an embodiment comprise apparatus 500. Apparatus 500 comprises a non-volatile memory 520, a data processing device 510 and a read/write memory 550. Non-volatile memory 520 has a first memory portion 530 wherein a computer program, such as an operating system, is stored for controlling the function of apparatus 500. Further, apparatus 500 comprises a bus controller, a serial communication port, l/O-means, an A/D-converter, a time date entry and transmission unit, an event counter and an interrupt controller (not shown). Non-volatile memory 520 also has a second memory portion 540.
A computer program P is provided comprising routines promoting use of autonomous passenger vehicles according to an embodiment of the present invention. The program P comprises routines for detecting one or more deviations inside said autonomous passenger vehicle which may generate problems. The program P comprises routines for taking action based on said thus detected one or more deviations so as to decrease or eliminate such thus generated problems. The routines for taking action based on said thus detected one or more deviations comprises routines for communicating said detected one or more deviations externally to one or more a predetermined receivers. The routines for taking action based on said thus detected one or more deviations comprises routines for informing an autonomous passenger vehicle fleet centre. The routines for taking action based on said thus detected one or more deviations comprises routines for taking said vehicle out of use. The program P comprises routines for storing one or more of said thus detected deviations, and preferably also the actions taken based on said thus detected deviations. The program P comprises routines for diagnosing said stored detected deviations, and preferably also the actions taken based on said thus detected deviations.
The computer program P may be stored in an executable manner or in a compressed condition in a separate memory 560 and/or in read/write memory 550.
When it is stated that data processing device 510 performs a certain function it should be understood that data processing device 510 performs a certain part of the program which is stored in separate memory 560, or a certain part of the program which is stored in read/write memory 550.
Data processing device 510 may communicate with a data communications port 599 by means of a data bus 516. Non-volatile memory 520 is adapted for communication with data processing device 510 via a data bus 513. Separate memory 560 is adapted for communication with data processing device 510 via a data bus 511. Read/write memory 550 is adapted for communication with data processing device 510 via a data bus 515. To the data communications port 599 e.g. the links connected to the control units 100 may be connected.
When data is received on data port 599 it is temporarily stored in second memory portion 540. When the received input data has been temporarily stored, data processing device 510 is set up to perform execution of code in a manner described above. The signals received on data port 599 can be used by apparatus 500 for detecting one or more deviations inside said autonomous passenger vehicle which may generate problems. The signals received on data port 599 can be used by apparatus 500 for taking action based on said thus detected one or more deviations so as to decrease or eliminate such thus generated problems. The signals used for taking action based on said thus detected one or more deviations comprises signals used for communicating said detected one or more deviations externally to one or more a predetermined receivers. The signals used for taking action based on said thus detected one or more deviations comprises signals used for informing an autonomous passenger vehicle fleet centre. The signals used for taking action based on said thus detected one or more deviations comprises signals used for taking said vehicle out of use. The signals received on data port 599 can be used by apparatus 500 for storing one or more of said thus detected deviations, and preferably also the actions taken based on said thus detected deviations. The signals received on data port 599 can be used by apparatus 500 for diagnosing said stored detected deviations, and preferably also the actions taken based on said thus detected deviations.
Parts of the methods described herein can be performed by apparatus 500 by means of data processing device 510 running the program stored in separate memory 560 or read/write memory 550. When apparatus 500 runs the program, parts of the methods described herein are executed.
The foregoing description of the preferred embodiments of the present invention has been provided for the purposes of illustration and description. It is not intended to be exhaustive or to limit the invention to the precise forms disclosed. Obviously, many modifications and variations will be apparent to practitioners skilled in the art. The embodiments were chosen and described in order to best explain the principles of the invention and its practical applications, thereby enabling others skilled in the art to understand the invention for various embodiments and with the various modifications as are suited to the particular use contemplated.
Claims (15)
1. A method for promoting use of autonomous passenger vehicles, characterized by the steps of: - detecting (S1), by means of detection means (110) on board an autonomous passenger vehicle (V), one or more deviations inside said autonomous passenger vehicle which may generate problems; and, - taking action, by means (120) for taking action, based on said thus detected one or more deviations so as to decrease or eliminate such thus generated problems, wherein the step of taking action based on said thus detected one or more deviations so as to decrease or eliminate such thus generated problems comprises informing an autonomous passenger vehicle fleet centre for the purpose of control of a vehicle fleet.
2. A method according to claim 1, wherein the step of detecting one or more deviations inside said autonomous passenger vehicle is performed during operation of said vehicle.
3. A method according to claim 1 or 2, wherein said one or more deviations comprises one or more of: appearance of one or more undesired chemical substances inside said vehicle; problem related sounds inside said vehicle; problem related movements inside said vehicle.
4. A method according to any of claims 1 -3, wherein the step of taking action based on said thus detected one or more deviations so as to decrease or eliminate such thus generated problems further comprises one or more of: communicating said detected one or more deviations externally to one or more a predetermined receivers, said step of communicating comprising providing an alarm to police, alarm to fire brigade; taking said vehicle out of use.
5. A method according to any of claims 1-4, further comprising the step of storing, by storage means (130), one or more of said thus detected deviations, and preferably also the actions taken based on said thus detected deviations.
6. A method according to claim 5, further comprising the step of diagnosing, by diagnosing means (140), said stored detected deviations, and preferably also the actions taken based on said thus detected deviations.
7. A system (I) for promoting use of autonomous passenger vehicles, characterized by: - detection means (110) arranged on board an autonomous passenger vehicle (V) to detect one or more deviations inside said autonomous passenger vehicle which may generate problems; and, - means (120) for taking action based on said thus detected one or more deviations so as to decrease or eliminate such thus generated problems, wherein the means (120) for taking action based on said thus detected one or more deviations so as to decrease or eliminate such thus generated problems comprises information means (124) arranged to provide information to an autonomous passenger vehicle fleet centre.
8. A system according to claim 7, wherein the detection means (110) for detecting one or more deviations inside said autonomous passenger vehicle is arranged to perform detection during operation of said vehicle.
9. A system according to claim 7 or 8, wherein said one or more deviations comprises one or more of: appearance of one or more undesired chemical substances inside said vehicle; problem related sounds inside said vehicle; problem related movements inside said vehicle.
10. A system according to any of claims 7-9, wherein the means (120) for taking action based on said thus detected one or more deviations so as to decrease or eliminate such thus generated problems further comprises one or more of: communication means (122) arranged to communicate said detected one or more deviations externally to one or more a predetermined receivers, said communication means comprising alarm means arranged to provide an alarm to police and/or fire brigade; means (126) for taking said vehicle out of use.
11. A system according to any of claims 7-10, further comprising storage means (130) arranged to store one or more of said thus detected deviations, and preferably also the actions taken based on said thus detected deviations.
12. A system according to claim 11, further comprising diagnosing means (140) arranged to diagnose said stored detected deviations, and preferably also the actions taken based on said thus detected deviations.
13. An autonomous passenger vehicle (V) comprising a system (I) according to any of claims 7-12.
14. A computer program (P) for promoting use of autonomous passenger vehicles, said computer program (P) comprising program code which, when run on a control arrangement (100) such as an electronic control unit or another computer (500) connected to the electronic control unit, causes the control arrangement (100) to perform the steps according to claim 1-6.
15. A computer readable medium comprising instructions which, when executed by a computer, cause the computer to carry out the method according to anyone of claims 1-6.
