OF THE INVENTION The invention relates to a method for generating an RF waveform which contains a code but not coded using a memory chip and signal processing in baseband. The underlying assumption in the above procedure is that there is access to a set of RF waveforms of finite duration and with different frequencies. These waveforms can be generated locally in advance or can be made wirelessly accessible via antennas in a remote device. These signal bursts of finite duration may conveniently hereinafter be referred to as parent signals. To generate the encoded waveform, the parent signals in the time, phase and amplitude domains are first manipulated, producing a set of daughter signals. The main difference in characteristics between the mother signals and the daughter signals is their power and occupied bandwidth. Thereafter, the set of daughter signals is formed individually, delayed by predetermined time delays, and then combined to generate a signal string containing its encoded binary data. It has been noted that all the operations relating to the generation of the coded waveform can be performed in an efficient manner. One of the main areas of application for the above procedure is in the RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) area for generating the labels. In the RFID applications, the duration and shape of the signals with finite duration are selected so that the final coded waveform will obey power and bandwidth criteria imposed by regulatory provisions.

In a preferred embodiment, the invention can be described as follows: Assume the occurrence of K RF signals SfM with finite duration (the parent signals) with locally different frequencies for a given duration Ti, 1 _ <i _ <K.
Modersignalerna kan emellertid även förvärva andra former, men med fast varaktighet liknande den i Fig. 1.A binary keyed waveform on / off, for example a sinusoidal wave with a fixed duration when ON and zero signal when OFF, is an example of a parent signal, see Fig. 1. However, the parent signals can also acquire other shapes, but with a fixed duration similar to the in Fig. 1.
The invention relates to the generation of K additional signals, SjC classified as daughter signals of duration I), 1 S j _ <K using RF time delays, power dividers and power combiners. It should be noted that 1] - <'_11 in Fig. 2 is an example of generating a daughter signal from a mother signal of the type shown in Fig. 1. As can be seen, parts first a two-way power divider mother signal S1M (see Fig. 2, block A) in two branches with equal power and then passed through two different delays TDi and TD2 (see Fig. 2, blocks B) with the limitation that TDi <TM, TD2 <TM, where TM is the duration of the mother signal. In a branch in addition to the time delay, there are phase shifters with an angle of 180 ° (see Fig. 2, block C). The combination of the signals in the two branches using a two-way combiner '(see Fig. 2, bieek E) results in the detreige gear src with duration IT02 - TDrI and a tail with duration l TD2 - TDil. 526 510 '1 As can be seen in Fig. 2, the occurrence of the tail is marked by a time gap for (TM-lTDz - TD11) from the disappearance of the daughter signal. It should be noted that the delays and duration of the parent signal are selected so that the coded waveform is produced in this gap in accordance with the operations described as follows.
Each daughter signal from a particular parent signal can be multiplied or cloned into several daughter signals with the same shape and low power using a power divider. By subjecting each such daughter signal to time delays and (or) phase shifts and (or) attenuation and then combining, we can generate a signal string having the properties of an encoded RF signal. We first demonstrate this idea by generating an encoded signal that contains data with N bits. Then we demonstrate the generation of a signal string from two different daughter signals (two different frequencies), which contains data with N-1 bits.
Fig. 3 is a general block diagram showing the generation of a signal string from a single daughter signal containing N-bit data having the properties of either PSK (phase shift keying), ASK (amplitude shift keying) or PPM (pulse position modulation). Fig. 3 consists of an N-way power divider (see Fig. 3, block A), N time delays (see Fig. 3, block B), N phase shifters (see Fig. 3, block C), N attenuator (see Fig. 3). 3, block D) and an N-way power combiner (see Fig. 3, block E). The different signal string formats can be obtained as follows.
We first demonstrate this idea by generating an encoded signal string that contains data with N bits. Next, we demonstrate the generation of the 526 510 signal string from two different daughter signals (two different frequencies), which contains data with N-1 bits.
Fig. 3 shows a general block diagram demonstrating the generation of a signal string from a single daughter signal containing N-bit data which has the properties of either PSK (phase shift keying), ASK (amplitude shift keying) or PPM (pulse position keying). The different signal string formats can be obtained as follows.
..bN.PSK signal string: Select attenuator (see Fig. 3, block D) to either be missing or the attenuation value to be zero.r Select TD, - = jx TC, j = 1 to N, where TC is the duration of the daughter signal S10 at the input of the power divider ( see Fig. 3, block A). Select for the phase shifts (see Fig. 3, blocks C), qi, - = 0 ° if bit bj = 1 and qi, - = 180 ° if bj = 0. Then the signal string S1M0D resembles a PSK waveform encoded with N data bits b1, bg, .... ..bN.
..b1v.ASK signal string: Select phase shifts to be zero for the phase shifts (see Fig. 3, block C) or omit the phase shifts. Select TD) = j x TC, j = 1 to N, where TC is the duration of the daughter signal S10 at the input of the power divider (see Fig. 3, block A). Select the attenuation for the attenuators (see Fig. 3, blocks C), to be Aj = 0 if bit bj = 1 and Aj- = infinite if bj = 0. Then the signal string S1M ° D resembles an ASK waveform encoded with N data bits b1, bz, .... ..b1v.
1. En antenn för att ta emot modersignaler från läsaren eller modersignaler alstras lokalt med användning av en oscillator.PPM signal string: Select phase shifts to be zero for the phase shifts (see Fig. 3, block C) or omit the phase shifts. Select the attenuation for the dampers (see Fig. 3, block D) to be zero. Select TD, - - TDj-z = to for bit b; = 0 and TD, - - TDfJ = t1 for bit bj- = 1 where to # t; and j = 2 to N. Then the signal string SJMOD resembles a PPM waveform encoded with N-1 data bits bi, bz, .... ..bN-1. 526 510 v FSK signal string: An FSK signal string is formed using a separate method to that of Fig. 3 due to the requirement of two different daughter signals from different parent signals with different frequencies. Fig. 4 shows in part the method of generating an FSK signal string. This assumes the presence of two different daughter signals with different frequencies s1C or S20, see Fig. 4. The input to the time delays, see Fig. 4 depends on the bit to be programmed. About bit b; = 0 is selected siC as input otherwise szc is selected. Choose TD, - = j x TC, j = 1 to N, where TC is the duration of daughter signal so? or S20, (see Fig. 4, block B). An FSK signal string will result when the delayed versions of the daughter signals are combined using an N-way divider, (see Fig. 4, block E). Let the number of S10 in the signal string be m. We can obtain S10 by using an m-way power divider after S10 in Fig. 2. In a similar way we can obtain S20 from S29. Application to RFID systems The method described above can be used to design an RFID tag and a reader to decode the encoded RF pathform emitted by the RFID tag. The RFID tag can be considered as an interconnection of the following building blocks. An antenna for receiving parent signals from the reader or parent signals is generated locally using an oscillator.
4. En antenn används för att sända den datakodade RF-vågformen.DC power to the oscillator can be obtained using RF power from the reader or via a battery. Building blocks for generating the data-coded RF waveform are based on a given modulation format as described above. Optional building blocks are used as amplifiers to increase the power of the coded waveform. 4. An antenna is used to transmit the data-coded RF waveform.
The reader is designed in such a way as to decode the coded waveform.
