Abstract

A seat in a vehicle has a squab(1) which is fastened to the vehicle floor. A back-rest(9) is mounted on the squab so that when the vehicle is hit from the back, the lower part of the seat-back moves back relative to the squab and head-rest on the upper part. Energy is absorbed by an energy absorber. The head of the vehicle occupant is brought into contact with the head-rest. The entire seat-back may then move backwards, for example by pivoting about an axis defined by a recliner(3).

Description

Ryggstödets övre del 10 kommer att föras framåt relativt fordonets färdriktning och som i figur 2 markeras av kraftpilen 11. in »ml 1: 1: zlzza in 'v 512 722 2 the head of the headrest of the chair (or of the backrest if the person is short). As the lower part (7) of the backrest is exposed to a sudden and heavy load, a special mechanism is triggered so that the backrest will be moved backwards and upwards in an integrated movement. These position changes are in 2gur 2 marked with power arrows 8 and 9. The upper part 10 of the backrest will be moved forward relative to the direction of travel of the vehicle and which in figur 2 is marked by the power arrow 11.

Vid beskriven lägesändring erhålles en förändring av ryggstödets vinkel i förhållande till den tänkta lodlinjen ( 4).The fact that the upper part of the backrest is advanced is of immeasurable importance because this means that the head is caught by the oncoming headrest 12. When the position change described is described, a change in the angle of the backrest in relation to the imaginary vertical line (4) is obtained.

Enligt uppfinningen kan lutningen förändras med maximalt 45°.Thus, the backrest is rotated so that the angle to the vertical changes by at least 5 °. According to the invention, the slope can be changed by a maximum of 45 °.

At the next change of position, the passenger's head, torso and legs will largely press against the entire backrest (2), which according to the invention results in the entire backrest being folded back.

This change of position is illustrated by the force arrow 13, fl gur 3. In this way a relatively soft deceleration of the body is obtained. All in all, an ergonomic interaction is obtained between the head (neck), torso and legs, which results in that neck injuries in a rear-end collision can be significantly reduced and in most cases eliminated in milder collisions.

In accordance with the description made above, it can be said in summary that the invention is characterized in that the lower part of the backrest (7) is moved backwards and upwards in a first step while the upper part (10) of the backrest is simultaneously moved forwards under pressure load from behind towards the chair. In a second step, the backrest is forced backwards, the entire torso and head abutting against the backrest (2) and the headrest (12), fi gur 3. In this second step, a relatively soft braking is obtained by means of, for example, a friction or torque brake which can be included in the setting knob (3).

In order to achieve the described positions of the chair, a device (5) is required which provides the described movement diagram. The following is an example of such a mechanism, hereinafter referred to as the guide rail. It should be emphasized that there may be alternatives to the guide rail.

The guide rail (5) forms an integrated unit with the seat (1) and the backrest (2). The guide rail is provided with at least two slots (recesses) 14 and 15. The lower slot (14) slopes obliquely upwards relative to the seat, while the upper recess (15) is substantially parallel to the backrest. In each slot there is a pin 16 and 17 (metal bar) attached to the side of the backrest. The upper slot (15) and its pin (17) should be placed relatively high up on the backrest. Thus, the pin (l7) and the slot (15) should be placed on a height position which constitutes at least 40% and preferably over 50% of the total height (length) of the backrest.

When activating the seat's safety function during the first step, the pin (16) slides from position 18 to position 19. As can be seen from Figure 2, this path gives a direction that goes obliquely upwards and backwards in relation to the intended direction of travel forwards. The upper pin (17) describes a rather vertical path and is moved from position 20 to position 21, as shown by fi gures.

Advantages When driving vehicles from behind, the present invention achieves a number of advantages.

A significant and important advantage is that the frequency of injuries is reduced and can in most cases be avoided altogether. In addition to reducing human suffering, significant economic benefits are also obtained. Thus, in most cases, large costs for both society and the individual can be avoided. Furthermore, large amounts can be saved through radically reduced need for rehabilitation care. Through the chair's unique construction, no damage is usually obtained to the chair itself. With minor measures, the chair can be used again.
