Abstract

An antenna connector is used having a ground plane in order to connect an outside antenna with the antenna of a portable telephone via a coaxial cable. The electronic coupling is carried out by means of capacitive electronic coupling between an active member of the cable and the permanent antenna of the telephone. In order to increase the capactive electronic coupling between the active member and the antenna, the active member (5, 15) is screened to the sourroundings at least in one direction from the active member. The screening is carried out by means of a metal plate (12) which is galvanicly connected with the ground plane. The electrical length of the plate is a certain fraction of the wave length of the frequency band of the telephone.

Description

35 7503 930 telefon med tillhörande antenndel och adapter. 35 7503 930 telephone with associated antenna part and adapter.

A telephone 1 has on its upper side a helix antenna 2, possibly this helix antenna is supplemented with a extendable upright antenna extending through the helix antenna. The antenna connected to the telephone in the form of the helix antenna 2 and / or the upright antenna is assumed to function satisfactorily when the Z telephone with the associated antenna is not in a shielded place. In the shielded location, the antenna needs amplification in the form of an antenna located outside the shielded area that can be releasably connected to the existing antenna on the telephone.

Said further antenna is indicated in the drawing figure by 3 and is thus at a distance from the telephone 1. An antenna cable 4 in the form of a coaxial cable from the antenna 3 is connected to an active element 5, such as e.g. can be a coil or a plate. The active element forms the active part of the adapter and can be releasably placed next to the antenna 2 so that capacitive connection takes place between the active element 5 and the antenna 2. Thus, signals received by the antenna 3 will be applied to the telephone 1 via the coaxial cable 4, the active element 5 and the helical antenna 2. Transmissions are transmitted in the other direction.

The adapter further comprises a small ground plane 6, which has a plane 7 supporting the active element 5 and is galvanically connected to the casing of the axial cable 4. Furthermore, a second plane 8 extends at an angle downwards from the plane 7. When the adapter is used, the planes 7 and 8 will be located towards or near the top 9 or one outside 10. Preferably, the adapter also has a housing of electrically non-conductive material and this is indicated in Figures 1 and 4 by the hood part 11.

It has now been found that the connection between the antenna 2 and the active element is sensitive and should be increased. This is especially true when the ground plane 6 is of insufficient size with a small, easy-to-handle adapter such as e.g. the one according to the present invention. According to the invention, the coupling is now improved by placing a passive element in the form of a curved metal plate 12 in the vicinity of the active element 5. In the embodiment shown, the metal plate is galvanically connected to the plane 7 and bent towards the active element. so that it shields the active element 5 from the environment at least in one direction.

Preferably, the shield should be such that radiation from the active element 5 and out of the telephone is shielded.

The metal plate 12 is thus connected to the ground plane 6, which as previously mentioned is galvanically connected to the conductive casing or shield of the axial cable.

Fig. 4-6 visar samma som fig. 4-6 show the same as Figs. 1-3 but the active element is of a different shape. Thus, this is constituted by a metal plate 15 which is placed standing next to the antenna 2. As shown, the plate 15 is connected to the coaxial cable 4 via an uninsulated Z-shaped loop 16. This loop provides an impedance match for the coupling between the antenna 2 and the active plate 15.

The adapter according to this embodiment is otherwise similar to that according to Figs. 1-3, so the same reference numerals are included.

Således blir den elektriska längden t.ex. en kvarts våglängd för de aktuella frekvenserna 824-960 MHz.The electrical length of the metal disc 12 is made so that it becomes a certain ratio of the wavelength of the frequency band of the telephone. Thus, the electrical length becomes e.g. a quarter wavelength for the current frequencies 824-960 MHz.

As a result, a high impedance is obtained at the end of the ground plane and thus the coupling at this point is increased. The width of the metal plate can be adapted to the desired coupling effect and other electrical effects and can be from the wire width to the width of the active element.
