Abstract

The centrifugal clutch has two or more, esp. three, shoes (13) with friction linings, rotating inside a drum (15). The drum is connected to the output shaft and there is a spider (12), connected to the input shaft (10), which is driven by an engine or motor. The arms of the spider engage in slots in the shoes, so that the shoes rotate with the shaft but may slide radially outwards. C-shaped springs (16) engage with hooks on the ends of the shoes and urge them inward toward each other, away from contact with the inside of the drum. Each spoke has a cross-section with two sideways displaced regions, engaging complementary regions in the slot in the shoe.
