Abstract
Description
The machined edges shown in Figures 1 to 3 and the cut groove 3 thus have a profile which prevents the cut portions from being ground or polished by means of a planar grinder. In normal cases, these edges and this groove must be sanded by hand with sandpaper, or sanded with malleable strips or discs.
7 i förstorad skala.Fig. 5 schematically shows a cutter 4 for, for example, cutting grooves or edges. 5 denotes the fibreboard. The surface of the cut portion 6 will exhibit, regardless of how fine tool is used, raised fibers, schematically shown in Fig. 6 on an enlarged scale, and pits from loosened fibers, see Fig. 7 on an enlarged scale.
Fig. 8 shows a part of the previously mentioned door 1 with the machined edge 2 and the cut groove 3. The portions formed by the cutting tool are, as can be seen from the figure, marked with dashed lines. On the left in Fig. 8 an example of a tool is used which according to the invention is used to achieve surface smoothness of the machined edge portion. The tool 7 is in the form of a jaw of metal, one side of which is formed with a profile which is the final profile of the edge portion 2. In order to achieve the surface smoothness of the portion 2, the tool 7, which is heated to a temperature suitable for the sheet material, is brought to a certain pressure in the direction of the arrow P7 towards the edge 2. While maintaining this pressure, the edge of the disc is then moved along the tool. The machined edge portion is then compressed - the material is compressed - at the same time as the fiber-binding material of the heat "melts together" and forms a very smooth surface 8, the solid line in the figure. Of course, it is also possible to move the tool along the edge instead, which, however, should be a less expedient solution.
As an example, the cut groove 3 is shown machined by means of a tool in the form of a rotationally symmetrical body, one end of which has a shape which corresponds to the final profile of the groove 3. In the same way as the previously described jaw, this heated rotationally symmetrical tool is applied with a certain pressure in the direction of the arrow P7 towards the groove portion 3 and the disc, the door, is moved continuously with the tool running in the groove. This shape of the tool, which is to be emphasized, is not rotating, makes it possible to follow the cut groove 3 also through its corners, since the tool of the shape in principle corresponds to the milling head which has cut the groove. Fig. 9 shows how an edge of the disc 1 is machined by means of a roll-shaped body 7. The periphery of the body 7 has a cross-sectional profile, which corresponds to the final profile of the edge 2. The roller is applied with a certain force in the direction of the arrow P7 towards the edge, as shown in Fig. 9, and is then rolled in a heated state with its profiled periphery along the edge.
This type of material, which in itself is well known and is primarily used in the manufacture of discs, contains i.a. resin.
With the heated tool, the fiber-binding material will be softened at the same time as the surface, which has been machined, is compressed due to the pressure applied to the tool. Because the disc and the tool are constantly moved in relation to each other during machining, the process can be done completely continuously.
It has further been found that the machining can be made even more efficient by vibrating the tool, suitably with an amplitude directed across the surface to be machined. Most of the tool's movement along the surface to be machined occurs when the vibration amplitude is directed from the surface and thus in this type of vibrating machining a combined drag pressure and press pressure machining is obtained as opposed to if the tool is not vibrated when pure drag pressure machining is present.
A process has been described above, in which the tool is heated. The object of the invention is achieved in the same way: instead, the sheet material in the processing portion is heated. Another and more suitable method is that the machined portion is heated to a temperature suitable for the sheet material and also the tool is heated, suitably to a temperature so as not to cool down the portion being processed too much.
By compressing the surface at the same time as the binder contained in the fibrous material softens and, depending on the temperature used, melts where appropriate, a dimensionally accurate, very even and in relation to the fibrous material pore-free surface is obtained, which does not need to be finished before subsequent for example painting.
It is to be understood that the heating of the disc material and the tool as well as the vibration thereof does not in itself form any part of the invention but can be achieved by means of any of the generally known and applicable techniques, such as for instance magnetic vibrator resp. infraljus.
