Abstract

A fuel accumulator for the fuel tank of petrol driven saws, garden tools or outboard engines which are likely to be tipped and temporarily starved of petrol consists of a porous stable material, preferably sintered polyethylene or bronze with a pore size of 70 microns in case of petrol, which encloses an inner cylinder from which the fuel is pumped to the engine. The fuel accumulator inside the fuel tank has an outer tubular casing (2) with a flat bottom (3) and an inner tubular wall (4), all made of porous material, pref. sintered polyethylene. The pore size should be chosen to suit the type of fuel, i.e. 70 microns for petrol, so that it acts as a self-sucking filter. A flat cover (5) divides an outer chamber (7) from the inner chamber (8) which is joined by a hose on the nipple (6) to the engine. A cylindrical weight (9) e.g. a rolled-up metal strip, holds the accumulator at the fuel tank bottom. A vent hole (10) of e.g. 0.8 mm dia. ensures a rapid filling.

Description

I nämnda yttre rörformiga del 2 är en inre rörformig del 4, likaledes cylinderformad, anordnad med ena änddelen anliggande mot botten 3, varvid den inre rörformiga delen 4 är anordnad i huvudsak koaxialt med den yttre rörformiga delen 2. 450 514 but can be given any design, with a substantially vertical longitudinal axis, which tubular part 2 is provided with a substantially flat and horizontal bottom 3. In said outer tubular part 2 is an inner tubular part 4, likewise cylindrical, arranged with one end part abutting against the bottom 3, the inner tubular part 4 being arranged substantially coaxially with the outer tubular part 2.

The parts 2 and 4 can be welded to or cast with the bottom 3. The material in the tubular parts 2 and 4 and preferably also in the bottom 3 consists of porous material such as sintered polyethylene where the pore size is selected depending on the fuel so that the parts and the bottom get the function of a self-priming filter. With petrol as fuel, the pore size is preferably chosen to be about 70 microns.

I toppdelen 5 är ett genomgående hål 6 anordnat centrerat över den inre kammardelen 8.This results in the so-called "sugar bite effect", which is why the filter material is reluctant to release the fuel when it has been sucked up into the material. The two tubular parts 2 and 4 are of equal length, so that a substantially flat and horizontal top part 5 in contact with the said tubular parts shields a cylindrical chamber part 7, formed between the outer and the inner tubular part 2 and 4, from an inner chamber part 8, enclosed within the inner tubular part 4. In the top part 5 a through hole 6 is arranged centered over the inner chamber part 8.

In the exemplary embodiment, the top part 5 with the hole 6 consists of a hose nipple part with the nipple facing out from the fuel collection chamber. In order for the fuel collection chamber to be in contact with the fuel in the tank, the cylindrical chamber part 7 is provided with a weight 9. The weight 9 consists of a rolled plate with a longitudinal opening in the jacket surface, preferably parallel to the longitudinal axis of the chamber part '7'. During operation, the fuel absorbed in the porous material gives extra weight to the fuel collection chamber.

In the fuel collection chamber according to the invention, the outer tubular part 2 constitutes collection vessels for the fuel 10 15 20 25 30 3 450 514 and the inner tubular part 4 filters. The cylindrical chamber part 7 and the inner chamber part 8 are closed and not in communication with each other. When the fuel collection chamber comes into contact with the fuel in the tank, the fuel is quickly sucked up by the outer tubular part 2 and into the cylindrical chamber part 7. Because the top part 5 is provided with a vent hole 10 over the cylinder. made chamber part 7, which hole according to the exemplary embodiment has a diameter of 0.8 mm, said chamber part 7 is completely filled with fuel. The porous material, here sintered polyethylene, absorbs fuel faster than the introduction through the vent hole, so that the outer tubular part 2 also has a filtering function. Through the porous material in the inner tubular part 4, the fuel is sucked into the inner chamber part 8, whereby a further filtration of the fuel is obtained. Through the hole 6, the fuel is taken to the internal combustion engine. When operating, for example, a chainsaw during tilting, the inner chamber part 8 sucks the cylindrical chamber part 7 completely empty before any fuel disturbances can occur. As long as a part of the fuel collection chamber is in contact with the fuel in the fuel tank, filling and perfect engine operation are obtained.

Since the weight 9 is arranged in the cylindrical chamber part 7, the risk of any abraded particles entering the carburettor is eliminated, since further filtration of the fuel is obtained when passing through the inner tubular part 4.

The filtering fuel collection chamber according to the invention, which is built up of few details and has a simple and reliable placement of the weight, provides a running reserve of about 30 seconds. The engine passage becomes very interference-free and when the tank is emptied, the filtering fuel collection chamber is quickly refilled thanks to the vent hole.
