Abstract
1,142,437. Weapon sighting device. HUGHES AIRCRAFT CO. 12 April, 1967 [25 April, 1966], No. 16732/67. Heading F3C. [Also in Division G2] A sighting device, particularly for an optical instrument or a weapon comprises optical means with a field of view for sighting a distant object, a reticle 20 disposed outside the field of view, at least two illumination mean each adapted to illuminate the reticle 20, one continuously and the other from ambient light and an optical arrangement 30, 51, 54 for producing an image of the illuminated reticle in the field of view, whereby the reticle image is superposed on the object for establishing a line of sight thereto. The optical means comprises a first housing part 42 having resiliently mounted towards each end thereof a pair of windows 62, 64 coated to enhance light transmission and inclined to the vertical to reflect infra-red radiation beneath the sighting device. The exterior of the housing may be treated to cut down reflected infra-red radiation. A dichroic beam splitter or filter 54 is interposed between the windows 62, 64. The reticle support structure 45 includes two pairs of flat cantilever springs 76, 80, an azimuth adjusting mechanism (90, Fig. 6, not shown) acting through a transversely movable pin on one of the pair of springs 80 and an elevation adjusting mechanism acting through a rigid tube 116 and a wire link 118 on one of the pair of springs 76. Ambient light passes through an inclined window 72 on to the reticule and a self luminous source 24, resiliently mounted in the housing, illuminates part of the reticle through a plurality of fibre optic strands 26.
