Abstract

1,108,407. Centrifugal strainer. CESKOSLOVENSKA AKADEMIE VED. 13 Sept.. 1966 [30 Sept.. 1965], No. 40786/66. Heading B1D The filtering surface of a centrifugal strainer comprises a continuous fibre 13 which enters the rotarv drum through its hollow shaft 4'. is constrained into a helix lining the drum and leaves the drum through a tube 22. returning through a winding device 23 . . 27 and a driving device 14 . . 17. The drum comprises two drum members 1. 2 whose axial ribs interlock and whose rotary axes are inclined or skew to effect progressive movement of the helix along the drum interior. The fibre is carried into the drum by an air or water stream in injector 18. 19. and similar devices may be used to wash and dry the fibre downstream of the drum. In operation. the drum lining is first built up by releasing fibre from winding device 23. . 27. and may be laid one or more turns thick by adjusting the relative speeds of the drum and fibre. Thereafter material for filtering is fed in by tube 28 which sprays across the length of the drum. In Fig. 5 (not shown) the fibre outlet tube (32) has an end disc and rotates, whereby the outgoing run of fibre is maintained in one sector of the drum and does not cut across the feed of material to be filtered. Alternatively, the said feed may be interrupted in synchronisation with the rotation. After building up the filtering layer in Fig. 5. tube (32) and disc (33) are advanced into the drum. Instead of being washed the fibre leaving the drum may pas through wringing rollers. The fibre may be stranded nylon, cotton or metal.
