Abstract

1,090,229. Printing apparatus; inking elements. PITNEY-BOWES Inc. Aug. 6, 1965 [Aug. 17, 1964], No. 33882/65. Heading B6C. An ink applicator for applying ink to a printing plate comprises in combination an ink-containing porous body, said body being made substantially of a resin, and of a plastioizer for said resin, and an ink in the pores of said body, said ink having a colorant in a liquid vehicle, said ink vehicle being of substantially the same composition as said plasticizer for the resin of said body. An ink impregnated roller is manufactured by moulding a plastisol of resin and plasticizer and salt mixture under heat subsequently leaching out the salt to leave a porous resin roller which is impregnated with ink by a vacuum process. The plastisol may comprise polyvinyl chloride resin mixed with a plasticizer of dioctyl phthalate and synthesized alkyl aryl hydrocarbon whilst the ink comprises a pigment and a wetting agent in a liquid vehicle formed of the same plasticizer as that used in the plastisol.
